Protection of personal data
When you place an order with us, we will ask for certain details from you, including name, billing and delivery address and email, as well as your payment details (if you are paying by debit or credit card).
We may also request a telephone number, so that we can contact you straightaway if there are any problems with your order. We need all of this information to ensure that your order is acknowledged, processed and delivered to you as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Please be assured that we will protect your personal information with the same degree of care as we would protect our own.
We also obviously have to comply with our legal requirements under the Data Protection Act 1998, a piece of (very lengthy) legislation that aims to prevent unauthorised access or distribution of your personal data.
By placing an order with us, you therefore accept that we may use this personal data (whether collected via our website or via other forms of correspondence with you) for the following purposes: processing, completing and dispatching your order; processing your payment; any necessary credit and reference checks; prevention of fraud; general research purposes (e.g. allowing us to ascertain where in the country our customers are based) or where required to do so by law or regulation.
If for any reason you have concerns about the information we hold, please email us on email@example.com. We will happily review what we have and update our records in accordance with your wishes.
We know all too well how important payment security is. No one wants to buy a necklace from Rock of Feather one minute, only to discover that their details have been used to buy a washing machine in Croydon the next (and that’s no offence to anyone in Croydon – the town was chosen completely at random).
We are confident that debit or credit card information provided via our website will not be accessed by any unauthorised individual, group or company.
We are also confident that it won’t be accessed by anyone other than Amelia and Natasha (since we don’t have any employees at present).
As soon as we have processed your payment, your card details will be removed from our record system, rather than stored. Whilst this does mean that you have to input your details each and every time you use our site, your payment details are protected to a greater extent.
If, for any reason, you believe that your card has been used fraudulently as a direct result of products having been purchased on our site, we will work with your bank or card provider to resolve the issue.
We would love to keep you updated about our product ranges, as well as send you notices of special offers and promotions by email. If you do not want to receive these, you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to unsubscribe and we will take you off our mailing list.
Please note that we will never pass on your email address to any third party for marketing purposes (however much they offer to pay us). We’re just not interested in going there, so we won’t even try to trick you into ticking the relevant box at checkout.
Above all, Rock of Feather is 100% dedicated to preserving your privacy, to only sending you things you actually want to receive and to ensure that no dirty rotten criminals get the opportunity to steal your card details. Obviously, as a start-up business, we don’t have the uber technology of an online retail giant beginning with the letter “A”, but we do have bags of common sense and a strong moral code.
